Flash and the Horrors of Flash

So I like Flash. I think it really helps a site stand out and it makes the site flow, but I have a huge problem with it. It starts with the University of Toledo labs. Seeing how Adobe updates their flash player so often, the University of Toledo is slow in updating their computers with the newer Adobe player, so that means a user cannot view a site with Flash. They cannot see certain elements in the website or they cannot see any of the website, if it is all done in Flash. This is bothersome!

If the University of Toledo is slow in updating, I am sure other Universities and Companies are too. What does this mean? It strictly means that as a designer or website owner with Flash, you lose some customers or viewers to your site. Many students at the University have no internet service were they live, so the labs at the University is the only place they can view the web.

So if you have Flash on your website you lose out on potential customers and viewers.

I have been debating the Issue of making a complete Flash site, but this settles it for me. I love Flash, but I do not love it that much to risk losing viewers (I need all the ones I can get).

So I will stick with HTML and CSS (which is another problem for older browsers).

Ok, hopefully I will switching blog sites and going to Wordpress' powerful blog engine. I will designing my blog, and writing some of the PHP tags in a couple days. So I will not have to use Blogger's default themes. I think I am going to make my blog a bit more abstract and colorful than my personal site... even though I love minimalism and my personal site. So clean... so whitespace.

I try to keep this blog about design in all aspects, but this just riles me. Don Imus is back on the air which I am applauding (*clap* *clap* *clap*), I do not agree with what he says, but this is America, and he has the right to talk. What annoys me is the fact that Rev Al (aka "bigot jew-hating white-mongering self-proclaimed Black pope") has said that Imus' apology is good, therefore Rev Al is letting him go back to radio. Who do you think you are Al (I am dropping the Reverend part, sorry you don't deserve it)? Why do we have to ask Al and Jesse if we are being "racist"? And why are people even listening to this hypocrite? I don't know... we live in one messed up world.

Ok I updated and redesigned my site, again. This one stays though. I got too many weird looks from people when they saw my old site. I call this design "Minimal", because it is a super clean, and minimalist site. It is my canvas where I will showcase my designs. So no one will be looking at the fluff, they will only look at the content and the designs I post. I love the design. I really like the clean look. I hope you all do too. Make sure to check it weekly for updates and the rest.

Design Updates

Well not that anyone reads my blog, I will still write it. Ok, so the RU site is coming along very strong. The Lord has given me a design idea, and He took me through the whole finish. So I am really excited about it. Uh, if my brother-in-law is reading this, I need your content, dude. Teens-with-Hope site should be up and running this weekend, hopefully. So look for that. Also I am creating a design for Lewis Avenue Baptist Church and StateLine Christian School, and these ones are going to look fantastic. The Lord always provides a design when those designs are for His church. Well that is all I have.

Oh yeah... I am having t-shirts made to promote my website. They are 5 bucks. I will post the designs on my website when I get the time.

So after I re-designed my site, again. I have been asked the question, "what does that collage mean?" My answer - It is how my mind looks when I am thinking. Hundreds of shapes and objects and aspects all mixed together to form one big collage, and from that I try to piece it all together to form a design. So I thought why not show what keeps me up at night on my personal site.

For instance, the Reformer's Unanimous site that I am working on. I am struggling with a concept for it. I want to make it professional, but I do not want it to look boring or reused. I want it to be smart, but not "in your face". I have been praying about a design idea, but I am waiting and creating mark-ups.

One of the biggest flaws I have is, I am never satisfied with a layout or design. I look at other people's designs, and say, "wow, why didn't I use more elements like this, this is awesome, man...". And then I go and try to redo what I spent hours on. Trying to create something fresh, when I should be studying physics or calculus. Oh well... hopefully I will wake up in the middle of the night with inspiration, or be walking through campus and inspiration will hit me in the face, then I rush home and crank out the layout as I study voraciously for Calculus and Physics.

Forgiveness

Have you ever been treated unfairly? Have you ever been played by another? Or have you ever been made fun of behind your back, by someone who you thought was your friend? It is a hard thing to get over. If you do not watch it, it will fester and grow and then control you. What should we do? The Bible is very clear on this subject. In Matthew 6:14 Jesus says "for if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:". Pastor Hobbins spoke about this very same thing. If we desire for our Heavenly Father to forgive us, we must forgive all those who have done us wrong. I don't know about you, but that is hard. Sometimes the only emotion I can draw out of being hurt is just anger and hatred. I work constantly to forgive those who have wronged me. But I think, 'how many times have I done something to another out of selfishness or pride.' I am just human, like them. Being hurt stinks, but not being forgiven is worse. If I desire to be forgiven then I must do it to others.
